What is a naming ceremony? A naming ceremony is usually a non-religious celebration of the arrival of a new child. Baby Naming Ceremonies are a wonderful way of welcoming the child and officially introducing him/her to family and friends and to the community to which he or she will belong.
The ceremony is usually performed during the child’s first year of life and is a formal way of introducing him or her to your loved ones. The style and scope of the event is limited only by your imagination.
You may wish to include blessings, poems, readings, family anecdotes and background music. You may also chose to appoint ‘guardians’ or ‘mentors’ (similar to the concept of Godparents) who will play an active role in the ceremony.
This ceremony can also be an appropriate celebration for anyone at any age. The uniting of step or adopted children within a family, or an adult name change are also great reasons for a naming ceremony.
